Our History

The church was founded in 1953, although there were some earlier links with the chapel at Thrupp. At this time, Kidlington was a rapidly growing community, and a handful of people started meeting in a hut now occupied by Helwys Place (Thomas Helwys was an early English Baptist in the 17th century).

By the early 1950s the population in Thrupp has dwindled but nearby Kidlington is growing.

In 1953 Britain celebrates the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II And Kidlington celebrates the arrival of the Baptist church which moves from Thrupp to an old army hut on The Moors.

By the middle of the 1960's we need a new building. A building plot is available at the corner of High Street and The Moors. Ten thousand pounds is a lot of money to raise and everybody is encouraged to give what they can.
