KBC valiant in defeat

Twice postponed because of the weather, KBC finally took the field at Charlbury Cricket Club for the long awaited match. Expecting a ladies team, we were a bit surprised to find many athletic young men against us! They managed to rack up 127 runs with some fine batting, if somewhat streaky at times. Good efforts with the ball came from David Miller, David Adams and Tim Cranston well assisted by some fine work in the field from Steve Sheppard, Mike Ellis, Graham Sinden, Richard Blaine and Ian Hayes behind the stumps.

Our batting held up well under some fierce attack from Charlbury bowlers and our run rate was as good as Charlbury’s for much of the time. Great innings from Jonathan Oliffe, David Adams and Tim Cranston were the backbone with good contributions from Steve Sheppard, Chris Jones and Josh Hornsby (the captain’s ringers!).

By
close we had reached 105, just 23 runs short of what would have been a momentous victory. A shame to lose our season’s unbeaten record (before this game we stood at P0 W0 D0 L0) but the match was played in a very good spirit and over a plate of chilli and a pint afterwards everyone enjoyed discussing how narrowly we were pipped – if only ........ Well done to the KBC team for a very creditable performance and thanks to our gallant barmy army of supporters for braving the elements.
