Full-time or part-time (open to discussion) up to 37.5 hours per week (over a 5 working day week including Sunday)
The Role
To lead and develop a vibrant, relevant and biblically based youth ministry within Kidlington Baptist Church, focusing on school year 7 and upwards, working within and supporting the team already involved in this ministry.
The Youth Worker, supported by and working alongside the Minister, Children and Youth Coordinator, and the youth team volunteers will be expected to be an engaging presence at all our regular youth activities, providing visionary hands-on leadership and deliver a programme in the following areas:
Looking Upward – developing relationships with God
Promote an active prayer ministry for, and with, the young people;
Cultivate an environment to develop the personal discipleship of young people and encourage their spiritual growth;
Encourage young people to be engaged with the worship life of the church.
Looking Inward – nurturing and pastorally supporting
Build relationships with young people in the church and wider community;
Be available to draw alongside young people to provide pastoral support, encouragement, challenge and direction;
Help young people to be active members of the wider church family, enabling them to be a visible and vibrant presence, and to have a tangible impact on the church’s culture and sense of community, through participation and serving.
Looking Outward – community involvement and evangelism
Create clear invitations for young people to take their next step towards Jesus;
Build on our current outreach and explore new ways to connect with young people in the local secondary schools and the wider community;
Work with other ministries within the church to help the young people develop an understanding of, and participation in, personal, local, regional and global mission.
Looking Forward – preparing the next generation of whole life disciples
Explore and facilitate ways in which young people can discern their calling and develop and utilise their gifts and skills for the Kingdom;
Equip and empower young people to take personal responsibility for their relationship with God and share their faith on their frontlines;
Help young people to transition well into post-18 church life, and maintain links with KBC youth alumni who have moved away.
Other Matters
Envision and release the youth work team to effectively deliver the above;
Be committed to being a member of Kidlington Baptist Church;
Given the nature of the role, it is strongly preferred that the youth worker lives locally within the community that we serve;
Participate in the Youth Council, attend meetings and evaluate the effectiveness of the youth work in achieving the vision;
Work with the Children and Youth Coordinator, and liaise with the Safeguarding Coordinator, to recruit, train, motivate and supervise a team of volunteer youth workers who support and uphold the Christian nature of the work;
Report on occasion to the wider Leadership Team and Church Members’ Meeting;
Model weekly attendance at KBC’s whole church worship gatherings, sitting with and worshipping alongside the young people;
Foster links, and be the link person, with local organisations and statutory bodies relevant to the church’s work with young people;
Be committed to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in accordance with agreed annual plans for the role.

Personal (Essential)
A practising Christian who is servant-hearted, with a passion for investing in young people and sharing the good news of Jesus;
Wholehearted in own ongoing spiritual growth;
Highly self-motivated and confident;
Honest, reliable and committed;
Dynamic and enthusiastic personality;
Committed to playing a full part in the life of Kidlington Baptist Church;
Be in agreement with the vision and be supportive of the beliefs and practices of KBC.
Knowledge / Qualifications (Essential)
Up to date knowledge of best practice in youth work including demonstrable understanding of safeguarding.
Knowledge / Qualifications (Desirable)
Qualification in youth work or ministry, or similar areas;
Training in theology or biblical studies;
Full driving licence, preferably with minibus category.
Experience (Essential)
Recent experience of working with young people;
Active engagement in an evangelical church community.
Experience (Desirable)
Previous experience in a youth worker role;
Experience in delivering training in youth and children’s ministry related areas;
Leading and encouraging teams of volunteers.
